The politics of Tibet: a 2007 reality check
Jul 05, 2007, The Hindu
As in every part of the world, there are bunches of problems in Tibet. Among them, the independence of Tibet
is just a pseudo-question. Historically, Tibet at most can be argued to have been an independent country for a
period; Politically, it is impossible to declare independence and Dalai Lama recognizes this point; Economically
it cannot survive without being a part of China. Tibetans are also willing to live together with Han and Muslims
as they did for centuries. Ignoring the reality and sticking to the wrong question can only  create meaningless
hostility and distract the efforts for concrete improvement of governance. Please give some time to know the
real Tibet.
