How China's regime represses its people and
betrays olympics
Maclean's (Canada), Apr. 7.
Two major political journals in Germany and Canada used very agitative covers for their latest
issues (below). Although the violent nature of the Tibetan riot has been revealed and the use of
Nepalese police images was criticized as unprofessional bias, these journals deliberately keep
using irrelevant eye-catching images and propagandistic titles. Why? Because it sells well.
The antagonism between the Communist Party and Dalai Lama, plus the Olympics naturally
provides attractive materials for journalists. However, one-sided exaggeration of this story is
unfair, unprofessional and dangerous. It creates deep prejudice in the western public, causes
anger among the Chinese people, and the increasing misunderstanding between the Western
and Chinese public may eventually develop into hatred and offensive nationalism as well as
fertilize chances of conflicts. Besides, it by no means helps to create an environment for
peaceful solutions of these problems.
Well, I know I am over-demanding the editors and journalists. How should I expect their writing
to influence the world peace? They write just to earn their bread, to buy their cars and to pay
for their vacations. How about a more conflictive world? Well, then they will have more juicy
stories to write ……
